Historic Milestones of Aerostar S.A.
The historical evolution below contains some of the programs achieved by Aerostar S.A. from its foundation up to now.
- The Governmental Decision 1165/17.04.1953 established the set up of the Central Aviation Workshop (Atelierul Central de Aviatie) as Aircraft Repair Factory.
- The company held the names U.R.A., I.R.Av., I.Av. and since 1991, Aerostar S.A.
- The creative and technical potential of the employees, the specific culture spread between generations lead at the valorisation of the Romanian aviation traditions and were the origin for the continuous development of the company.
- The beginnings of the jet powered aircraft in Romania are closely related with the name of the company, here was accomplished the maintenance for all military aircraft types which were acquisitioned by Romanian Air Forces.
- Here in Bacau was manufactured the prototype of IAR-93, first Romanian fighter aircraft after WW II.
- Here were produced the first landing gears and aviation hydro-pneumatic equipments in Romania. More than 2500 aircraft are fitted with landing gears and aviation hydro-pneumatic equipment manufactured by Aerostar.
- More than 1800 IAK-52 aircraft were manufactured and delivered.
- Along the time were overhauled more than 3500 aircraft and over 6000 jet engines.
- Aerostar employees sent to flight more than 10 prototype aircraft.
- Today, Aerostar S.A. realises major programmes in military aviation and ground defence systems and develops the position of civil aviation supplier.
